Sheryn’s Pastel Projects

I began Andrea’s Lilies I in 2006 as a gift for my sister.

All of my work is based on my own photos. A set of 12 Conte chalk pastels was used on mid-grey Canson paper. The work was then sprayed with fixative and ... I was horrified by the result!

I came back to it a year later, reworked the composition, added 12 new colours and left the final layer unfixed.

Waterlily, 2006, is drawn on full-size dark brown Canson paper and uses only 12 colours.

Andrea’s Lilies II, 2007, is drawn with 24 hard Conte pastels on a smaller piece of mid-grey Fabriano  paper.

The work in progress photo is of a piece entitled Lilies on Green, 2007/2008. I prepared two works for our group exhibition held at TinCat Cafe. Unfortunately for my purse, my husband took a liking to them so now they’re on display at home.

Happy the Lily When Kissed by the Bee was commissioned in 2008. I made a short movie of its creation which can be viewed here.
